ACCESSIBILITY

Making things accessible to all people no matter what their ability or disability.

Welcome to Hedgehog Bottom web site. We have tried very hard to make this site accessible to everyone regardless of the technology they are using to browse the internet. That's the good news. Now for the bad news.... we probably haven't got it one hundred percent correct so we would like to ask a favour. If you find anything on here that is difficult to use, impossible to navigate or just plain stupid, please don't hesitate to contact us and we'll do our utmost to sort it out for you.

Where to start

Use the site map to get an overview of what is on the site.

How the site is built

The site satisfies UK Disability Discrimination Act standards for web accessibility and exceeds WAI level 'AA'.

The pages have been run through Cynthia which is an automated web accessibility checking tool. When this site is checked in Cynthia it passes but you are welcome to check this for yourself.

The site has been run through the Vischeck Colour Blind Simulator to ensure that there is sufficient contrast for those visitors with colour vision deficiency.

Text is left aligned with increased line heights to enhance readability.

If you have any difficulties with the site please contact us with details and we will do our utmost to fix any problems. If we are unable to do so then we will provide alternatives.

Layout

This site uses Cascading Style Sheets (CSS2) to handle all of the presentation and layout. If tables are used at all they are purely for presentation of data and will have appropriate headings to explain contents.

Contents

The contents have been written and formatted to make them accessible. For example:

  • skip links are available at the head of each page to allow navigation direct to contents or direct to the main site navigation
  • there is a link to a site map from the top of each page
  • headings highlight sections of text
  • links use meaningful text
  • the site and forms can be navigated using the tab key

Access keys have not been used on this site due to their tendency to override the keys you are used to using with your browser.

Tab indexing has not been used on this site. The site contents are believed to be in a logical order and skip links have been provided to speed up navigation.

Remember though, if you find any problems in using this site please feel free to contact us and we will do our absolute darndest provide a solution
